IOM Ride
“IOM Ride” - A whimsical child ride for The Isle of Mann race. 2015 - composed of metal & wood. For the last 30 years or so I've loved to make imaginary motorcycle motors usually based on real classic motors but with a different flare. Most people think they are real and walk on by, or ask if it will run, that's the most often and most irritating question, think about if it ran so what? I usually say I have a pet squirrel that has been racing my small bikes for 3 decades and lives in a small trailer behind my house and he's got a room full of small trophies, but that's another story. I acquired a wooden foundry pattern that was the foot of a printing press, and it sat around for many years. I had just decided to put a G50 Matchless motor (little) in a frame with wheels and it looked like a small road racer a toddler could ride. Somehow one day I realized that if I put the small motorcycle on top of the wooden pattern it would look like a 10-cent kiddie ride that we all remember in front of stores when we were kids. I even made a coin box with a slot in it. Then it occurred to me that graphics were needed to attract the parents and kids. Since the motorcycle atop the ride was a Matchless G50 with racing slicks why not "Ride the Isle of Man TT"! It all came together and seemed to work well , I think.
